You will always read about the importance of getting your car serviced and following the recommended service schedule, but is it really that important? Getting your car serviced is not a legal requirement, but there are many good reasons to do it. Many do not bother because of the cost, but this approach could end up costing you more in the long run. Read on to discover the importance of getting your car serviced.

    What is a Car Service?

First, it is worth looking at what a car service is. Essentially, this is a checkup of your vehicle at different intervals to assess its condition, carry out a few basic maintenance tasks, and address any issues that the car has.

    Different Types of Service

Not all car services are the same, and the type will depend on the type of car, age, and mileage. A minor servicing, also called a basic car service,  is usually required every year or 10,000km and involves a vehicle inspection, diagnostic checks, engine oil and filter replacement, and tyre rotation. A major servicing usually is performed after two minors or 30,000km – this involves all of the above, as well as replacing transmission fluids and oils, adjusting tappet clearance, and replacing wheel bearing grease. There are also services for electric cars, which will involve a completely different set of tasks.

Why is a Car Service Important?

There are a handful of reasons why you should stick to your car’s service schedule:

    Safety

The primary reason is safety. A car service will ensure that your car is safe and roadworthy. Which is important for your own safety as well as the safety of other road users and pedestrians.

    Preventing Issues

A servicing should also help to prevent issues from arising, and small problems can be picked up before they become major issues. This is important because it should keep you on the road and prevent the need for expensive repairs.

    Preserve the Value

Regular car servicing can also preserve the value of your vehicle. In addition to ensuring the car is in good condition, buyers will want to see that the car has been serviced regularly. This means that you should be able to get a good deal and find a buyer when looking to sell.

    Efficiency

Regular servicing will also ensure that the vehicle is fuel-efficient and running smoothly. This is important because it will save you money on fuel while reducing your environmental impact – something everyone should be looking to do right now.

It is clear that sticking to your car’s service schedule is important for a few reasons. It might be a pain and feel like an unnecessary expense. But it could end up saving you a lot of money and hassle. Additionally, every motorist has a responsibility to make sure that their car is safe and roadworthy.
